Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said the Guru Nanak Expressway would hold religious significance for the Sikh community and that international investment would be sought for the project.

He said the Sikh communities in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States would be invited to invest in the Guru Nanak Expressway.

The Government of Pakistan has announced the Guru Nanak Expressway as a major infrastructure initiative aimed at promoting religious tourism and improving access to important Sikh holy sites.

The project is expected to connect Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib with Pakistan’s motorway network, making travel to these sacred destinations easier for domestic and international pilgrims.

World-Class Facilities for Pilgrims

The planned expressway is expected to be supported by modern facilities designed to provide Sikh pilgrims and other religious tourists with a comfortable and secure travel experience.

The government has directed the development of three-, four- and five-star hotels along the expressway. Rest areas, restaurants, service stations and other facilities are also planned to improve convenience for visitors.

Connecting Sikh Holy Sites

The Sialkot-Kartarpur section of the project has been assigned to the National Highway Authority (NHA). The expressway is intended to provide improved road access to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur and other important Sikh religious sites.

The project is also expected to benefit nearby communities, including residents of Narang Mandi and Baddomalhi, by improving transportation links and access to surrounding areas.

International Outreach

The Pakistani government also plans to promote religious tourism internationally, with Sikh communities in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States being targeted through promotional campaigns and roadshows.

These campaigns are expected to highlight the historical and spiritual significance of Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib, as well as improved access through the Guru Nanak Expressway.

Investment Opportunities

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has said that international investment will be sought for the Guru Nanak Expressway.

He said Sikh communities in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States would be invited to invest in the project, which is intended to support religious tourism and related infrastructure.

Economic Benefits

The project is expected to support tourism-related economic activity by increasing visitor access to the region. Greater tourist activity could benefit hotels, shops, transportation services and other local businesses.

Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib

Kartarpur Sahib is the site where Sikhism’s founder, Baba Guru Nanak, spent the final years of his life, while Nankana Sahib is his birthplace. Both sites hold major religious significance for Sikhs around the world.

The proposed expressway is intended to make access to these sites easier, particularly for international Sikh pilgrims travelling from India, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States.

A New Phase for Religious Tourism

The Guru Nanak Expressway is being presented as a major step toward developing religious tourism infrastructure in Pakistan. Along with improved road connectivity, modern accommodation and visitor facilities are planned to support pilgrims and tourists travelling to the country’s important Sikh religious sites.
